Seoul Birthday Party!

This past weekend we headed up to Seoul once again, this time for a friend's birthday! Sarah Butt, our dear friend from England, was celebrating her birthday!

I convinced Brian to head up to Seoul a bit early so we could 'check out some more sights'. But little did Brian know I was directing him straight to the Seoul shopping district, Myeong-Dong. Brian didn't quite believe that it was a coincidence when we stumbled upon Forever 21, one of my favorite stores back in Canada. But he was a very gracious and generous husband and followed me around the store, even letting be buy a few items! In the same district there was a lot of other Western shops like H & M and the Gap. Needless to say, I was a happy girl when we left there.

Then we headed off to Itaewon to meet up with our friends. Now, if you read our previous post about our trip to Seoul and experiencing Itaewon you'll know Brian holds a STRONG dislike for that neighbourhood. It really is FULL of westerners, and they're not always the friendliest. So while Brian was not looking forward to this part of the trip, we ended up having an awesome time, and I think we were able to change Brian's mind about Itaewon!

We had decided to stay over night in Seoul instead of taking a late night or early morning bus. We checked into our hotel which was surprisingly nice and cozy. We had a quick nap to fight off any tiredness from the LATE night before at our kindergarten sleepover (see next post). Next, we headed out for some DELICIOUS Mexican food! From there we headed to a small Irish pub just down the road. The place was packed, and FULL of foreigners. It honestly felt like we were back in Edmonton down on Whyte Avenue, you could see maybe 2 or 3 Koreans in the place. What made it feel even MORE like home was the fact that on tap the had a beer from a small microbrewery in Edmonton, AlleyKat. Brian and his old roommates had gone on a tour of the brewery in Edmonton so it was pretty neat to see it all the way in South Korea! It was also a nice break from the rather boring Korean beer.

It ended up being a rather late night again, and an even earlier morning. Brian was playing drums in church the next morning so he had to catch the bus back to Cheongju at 6am! I got a bit more sleep and got a later bus with a friend. Overall, a great weekend and a great way to celebrate with friends. We just wish the weekends could be a bit longer, we need ANOTHER weekend to recover from this last one!
