Another Week in Cheongju

Well another week has gone! And just as quick as the last!

Not too much excitement this week (thank goodness)! A quiet (well as quiet as it can be) week at work. Only a few moments of excitement, or hiccups in the week, such as one of my boys peeing his pants in class, and another peeing all over the floor in the bathroom... My class also took a field trip this week to a local pottery store. The kids got to make their own cups out of clay. Their cups ended up turning into more of 'bowls' with handles, but they had lots of fun. Other than that, nothing new to report!

We decided to have a very low key weekend and did very little. On friday we got together with some people from the church and went and saw the movie Red starring Bruce Willis. It was in English with Korean subtitles. It was great to have some popcorn and just relax, and hear English on top of it! After the movie we went and hung out a bit with a few people. It turned into a very late night, which meant a late morning the next day. 

Saturday we got to sleep in till past 11 which was quite the treat! We were lazy around the apartment all day, jsut watching tv (or playing computer games in Brian's case) and doing a bit of cleaning. Saturday night we went to a friends house to watch a movie (How to Train a Dragon- Definitely recommend it!) It was a lot of fun, and it's great that we're getting to know some more people. 

Today, Sunday, we went to church as normal, and then off to Korean lessons. We're starting to get a hang of the language (a little...) and today we worked on some dialogue. We learned a few very useful phrases, such as "I don't know Korean", which will be very helpful! After our lesson our teacher took us to the youth service that was just starting. Apparently some big shot Korean celebrity musician (he was actually Korean American) was going to be at the service and singing, so we peeked in to listen. He was singing in English, but in between songs he would pray in Korean and say a few words, it was neat to see all the Koreans and how they worship. It was an amazing thought and feeling to see everyone, Koreans and foreigners, together worshiping, and the fact that language didn't really matter!

 

The rest of the day has spent doing some more relaxing and cleaning. Next weekend we're going on another outing with the church to a park with some type of a walk, and scenic area. apparently a lot of bamboo grows where  we're going so it should be cool! Also, November 11 is Remembrance Day in Canada, but here in Korea it is Pepero Day... Apparently, it's a bit like Valentine's day, except people give out these chocolate wafer sticks for 11/11.... I dunno how popular the day actually is, but it does explain the large displays of these cookie things that have appeared in the stores!
