This weekend three of our friends from church were performing in a Korean talent show (for the Cheungcheong Buk Do province) so we went to support them. It was pretty entertaining. The talent show was for foreigners only but that also included people from Mongolia, China, Japan, the Philippines, anywhere but Korea. You could do a song or a dance for your talent but it was supposed to be in Korean (one lady sung in English...) The whole thing really reminded me of the TV show America's Got Talent except we weren't allowed to boo anyone off stage...
The top winners move on to the next round and then on to nationals where they could win a cash prize and it is aired on TV. Our 3 friends (CareyAnn, Heidi, and Stephanie) were the only Caucasians performing. They did a great job too!
It was pretty funny because there was a guy for the TV show was there videoing, and of course he wanted lots of shots and close ups of us the Caucasian waygooks. He would tell us when to clap and when to wave our hands in the air. At the end of the show he called everyone up on stage and we had to video a few of the show's catch phrases for him, we had to say, "All Together!", "Top Talent!", "Cheung Buk Do! Go! Go! Go!". Apparently the TV show airs in 110 countries, so check your local listings to see us, the new stars of Korean TV!
Have you been watching America's Got Talent?
